On October 26, 2024, I had the pleasure of attending This is Thriller, an event hosted by the Heal Los Angeles Foundation at the iconic Palace Theatre in Los Angeles. The same venue where Michael Jackson filmed his legendary "Thriller" music video back in 1983.
The evening began with an early entry at 5 PM, allowing guests to explore and enjoy the atmosphere before the main event. Although I arrived closer to 6:30 PM, there was still plenty of time to connect with fellow MJ fans, grab some popcorn and drinks, and browse through the exclusive This is Thriller merchandise on offer. While I didn't purchase the stunning This is Thriller jacket, I did take home a few memorable souvenirs, including a small towel and a popcorn box.

The highlight of the night was the Q&A session with Rick Baker, the mastermind behind the groundbreaking makeup and special effects in the "Thriller" video. Hearing his stories about working with Michael and transforming him into characters like the werewolf and zombie was truly amazing.
I met Olar Ray, who was Michael Jackson's girlfriend in the Thriller video, and Vincent Paterson, the assistant choreographer and one of the zombies. He has incredible moves, and it was a joy to watch him have fun at the event.
As the evening progressed, we were treated to a screening of the "Thriller" music video. Watching this iconic film in the very theater where it was filmed was a surreal experience. The atmosphere was electric, with fans cheering and singing along to every beat. Then, just as the zombie dance sequence began, the theater came alive with performers dressed as zombies, recreating the dance in real time. It was a spectacular surprise!

Another touching moment was the tribute to Michael and Tito Jackson, where some personal family videos were shared. Out of respect for the family, recording was not allowed, making the moment even more intimate and special for those in attendance.
Overall, This is Thriller was a night filled with nostalgia, excitement, and heartfelt moments. It was a beautiful celebration of Michael Jackson's legacy.
